Timm Glover

Senior Vice President, Mission Integration, Ascension Health

Timothy (Timm) L. M. Glover serves Ascension Health as the Senior Vice President, Mission Integration. In this role, he provides for the spiritual, strategic and collaborative leadership required for the deepening integration of the Mission, Vision, Values and Catholic Identity of Ascension Health throughout all sponsored ministries and partnerships. He works closely with leadership at the System, Health Ministry and local levels in defining creative ways to express Ascension Health’s Catholic Identity within the ever-changing healthcare environment and collaborating to support our Health Ministry CEOs in their role as leaders in a ministry of the church.

David Franz, MBA, FACHE

Manager, Ascension Health Experience Team

David joined Ascension Health and the Healthcare That Works Research and Development Team in November 2003. His primary responsibilities include Health Ministry consulting, project development and facilitating programs on important topics such as emotional intelligence and communication in support of the patient experience.

Jim Funk, M.S.

Director, Executive Formation

Jim Funk began his role with the Mission Integration department at Ascension Health in July 2010 as Director of Executive Formation. His responsibilities include facilitating the Formation for Catholic Healthcare Ministry Leadership two-year program and providing support for other mission integration and formation activities in his part-time role.

Pat Herrmann, PhD, FACHE

Manager, Ascension Health Experience Team

Pat Herrmann is responsible for development and definition work around the patient experience. He manages a systemwide patient experience data base and is responsible for developing metrics and research on the patient experience. Previously Pat worked with Ascension Health’s St.Vincent Health in Indianapolis. His healthcare career includes vice president positions in business development, strategic planning and managed care, and he has a consulting background in market research. Pat is a medical sociologist with a doctorate from the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Ind. He also has a master’s in business administration degree with a concentration in finance from Indiana University.

Sarah E. Hetue Hill, M.A.

System Manager, Palliative Care Initiatives

Sarah Hill is System Manager of Ascension Health’s Palliative Care Initiatives. In this role, she is responsible for directing palliative care efforts across Ascension Health. She directs efforts to identify, troubleshoot and develop action plans to address barriers to providing palliative care. She also educates care providers and leaders across Ascension Health on techniques and resources needed for building and sustaining effective palliative care programs, and she manages palliative care data collection and analysis to measure effectiveness of programs and to optimize clinical quality and organizational effectiveness of palliative care services Systemwide.

Peggy Kurusz, MBA

Vice President, Mission Initiatives

Peggy Kurusz, B.S., M.B.A., is the Vice President, Mission Initiatives for Ascension Health. In this role, Ms. Kurusz has responsibility for fostering the integration of the Ascension Health Catholic Identity, Mission and Values within the Strategic Initiatives. She is responsible for leading all aspects of implementation, coordination, ongoing development and evaluation of mission interventions including Patient Experience and collaborates to oversee the strengthening of the Model Community of engaged associates.


Sara McGinnis Lee, M.A.

Project Specialist, Workplace Spirituality

Sara McGinnis Lee is Project Specialist in Workplace Spirituality at the System Office of Ascension Health. Her responsibilities include project management, writing and research for various initiatives in Workplace Spirituality and assisting the Director of Workplace Spirituality/Director of Mission with System Office formation activities. She has been in this role since fall 2010.

Celeste Mueller, D.Min.

Vice President, Formation and Theological Education

Celeste is Vice President, Formation and Theological Education for Ascension Health. In this role she supports and advances formation throughout Ascension Health in accord with the vision of the sponsoring entities and the organizational commitment to formation at all levels. She provides leadership for Ascension Health formation programs and collaborates to develop a coherent, integrated and consistent approach to formation that serves the Ascension Health Mission and Strategic Direction and the specific competencies of leaders and associates. Celeste is also fostering deeper integration of Formation and Leadership Development through her work designing, developing and facilitating formation in the Ascension Health Alliance Leadership Academy.


Dan O'Brien, Ph.D.

Senior Vice President, Ethics, Discernment and Church Relations

Dan O'Brien, Ph.D., is Senior Vice President, Ethics, Discernment and Church Relations, serving as the executive lead for the ethics department and its system-wide ethics functions that serve Ascension's national health ministry. Ascension Health, the nation's largest non-profit and Catholic health system, has over 150,000 associates serving in over 1900 facilities in 23 states and the District of Columbia. Dr. O'Brien is responsible for providing ethics and theological leadership, analysis and guidance for Executive Leadership throughout Ascension in support of the strategic decisions that promote the fulfillment of Ascension's Mission, Vision, Values and identity as a ministry of the Catholic Church. He has accountability for facilitation and for educating ministry leaders engaging in the Organizational Ethics Discernment Process.

Julie O'Connor, M.A.

Manager, Management Formation


Julie O’Connor is the Manager of Management Formation. In her role she assists others to grow into the fullness of who they were created to be as they connect the work they do with mission and view it as a vocation.


Laura Richter, M.Div.

Director of Workplace Spirituality and
Director of Mission Integration, System Office

Laura Richter joined Ascension Health as Director of Workplace Spirituality in 2006 and was also named Director of Mission Integration for the System Office in September 2008. in her role, she works nationally to strengthen Spiritual Care across our System and collaborates with a number of different areas, bringing the Mission Integration perspetive to many streams of work. Laura holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Marquette University, Milwaukee, and a Master of Divinity from Weston Jesuit School of Theology. Laura worked for Covenant Health System and Sisters of Mercy Health System prior to coming to Ascension Health. She continues to work collaboratively with other Catholic systems around issues of workplace spirituality and spiritual care. Spirituality for the Sisters of Mercy Health System, St. Louis, in 2004.

John Paul Slosar, Ph.D.

John Paul Slosar, Ph.D.

John Paul Slosar, Ph.D., is the Vice President, Ethics Integration and Education for Ascension Health, and Vice President, Ethics, Ascension Health Care Network.  In his role, Dr. Slosar is responsible for providing ethics and theological leadership, analysis, review, consultation and education to leaders, clinical staffs, associates and ethics committee members throughout Ascension Health, Ascension Health Care Network and other subsidiaries of the Ascension Health Alliance. Dr. Slosar promotes the integration of the Mission, Vision, Values and Catholic Identity with the operations of Ascension Health, Ascension Health Care Network and the subsidiaries of the Ascension Health Alliance by fostering the formation and development of ethics competencies, assisting the health ministries in working through the social, pastoral, ethical, clinical and organizational implications of the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services, and leading initiatives to create a consistent culture of Ethics throughout Ascension Health.

Dennis Winschel, M.A.

Director, Formation Programs

Dennis Winschel always has had a personal interest in the dynamics of spiritual growth and development. He has worked in for-profit and nonprofit sectors as a pastor, teacher, coach, counselor, trainer, manager, performance and organizational development consultant. He has worked locally and internationally in Australia, Africa, England and Hong Kong. With a background in theology, spirituality and counseling he has the ability to translate and synthesize key concepts from spiritual theology into language of psychology or organizational development.
